Hello, Charis here! I’ll be writing our blog post this time as Will was busy attending a university conference in Vienna during the week. I tagged along towards the end of the week to do some sightseeing and join Will for the weekend.
I joined Will late on the Wednesday and spent the Thursday and Friday mooching about by myself, being a proper tourist! On the Thursday I went back in time to learn about Vienna’s history at the time travel museum, got great views from the viewing deck of Karlskirche, and enjoyed the unique architecture at Hundertwasser Village.
On the Friday I met Julie Andrews at Madame Tussauds, saw the famous white stallions being trained at the spanish riding school and made friends with a Komodo Dragon at the Haus des Meeres. I ended the day by meeting Will at the Danube tower, not far from the conference centre. We enjoyed some 360° views of the city whilst we shared an apple strudel at the revolving cafe.
On the Saturday Will was free to join me for some sightseeing and we decided to focus on two areas of the city, Schonbrunn and Prater. We started the day in the Schonbrunn gardens, a UNESCO world heritage site, and visited the Zoo there (I do love my zoo trips!). Next, we headed back towards the centre to Prater amusement park where I chickened out from all the big rides and compromised by going on the ferris wheel (although I still found that a bit too wobbly for comfort!). We also indulged our childish sides and had food and drinks at the rollercoaster restaurant.
As we were leaving on the Sunday and had our luggage with us, we decided to do the hop-on hop-off bus tour (who doesn’t love to learn facts whilst resting their travel weary legs?!). And, on the river cruise we had a bit of a translation mix up and Will accidentally tried his first cocktail and I ended up drinking both of them!
We headed back to the airport and after a flight and two trains, finally arrived back at our home in the UK, rather late and not keen to get up early to get back to daily life!
