Hello readers! We’re back from our week-long adventure in Madeira. Our trip began with a sunny welcome as we landed. We really lucked out with the weather, as the island was in the midst of a heatwave, treating us to 30-degree sunshine most days.
Our first day was all about immersing ourselves in Funchal, the island’s vibrant capital. We seized the opportunity to hop on cable cars, experience the iconic toboggan run in Monte, and take a leisurely stroll through the colourful botanical gardens. This was the perfect kick-off for our Madeira adventure, offering not only breath-taking views but also lots of fun!
Day two had us on a fact-filled bus tour around Funchal, exploring the charming fishing village of Câmara de Lobos and the stunning viewpoint at Cabo Girão.
On day three, we decided to take our adventure up a notch with a challenging mountain hike. The views from up there were amazing, and every step was an adventure in itself, with mountainside paths, tunnels and steep steps. It was an unforgettable experience.
After all that hiking, we decided we deserved a day of relaxation. We took it easy, did a leisurely 2-hour walking tour, and hopped on a bus to the scenic Nuns Valley. It was a perfect break to recharge our batteries for the next hike.
And speaking of the next hike, the following day we laced up our hiking boots again and explored one of the coastal trails. The clifftop views of the sea were stunning and the diversity of Madeira’s beauty continued to amaze us.
To finish our trip with a bang, we hopped on a jeep safari and ventured through the Fanal forest to the northern part of the island. Our tour led us to some fantastic rock pools formed by ancient volcanic activity. Taking a dip there was the perfect finish to our Madeira adventure.
