This week we turned our skills to wall building which luckily required a lot less creativity and more civil engineering. The construction methods were not exactly what we’re used to though (understatement of the year) and we spent most of our time mixing cement by hand in a trough! By the end of the week we had built an almost straight wall (that’s generous) around a school to keep the kids away from the steep slope the other side.
Our weekend trip was to Denpasar where we met up with Charis’ sister and her boyfriend; Dora and Dan. They joined us at our accommodation in Kuta and spent the weekend with us. Our first activity of the weekend was a no-go. We had found a free walking tour but the guide didn’t show up at the time and location posted on their website (I blame Charis). Instead, we had a cut down version that I led (my tour was obviously better than the one we had missed). The surfing on Saturday afternoon was much more successful and even Dan had a go (despite his fear of open water)!
Sunday’s itinerary just included a trip to the hidden (not very hidden) canyon. This involved a guided walk up a river and through the canyon it had carved (think gorge scrambling). Some of us were able to walk through whereas others had to swim in places (the girls… they’re so small).
Update: I’m feeling much better than last week and have nearly completed my course of drugs!
