This week we spent all of our project time decorating the walls of the classrooms we prepared last week. Luckily our German team members were very artistic so all we had to do was mix colours and paint inside the pencil lines they’d drawn for us (Engineers are basically toddlers).
At the start of the week, our team was in full force. Unfortunately us lads got sick and by the end we had to leave the decorating to the girls (terrible, I know). We were bed ridden from Wednesday onwards and Danny started to dread his flight home on Saturday (on top of the sickness he had an ear infection too!).
This weekend we thought we’d venture out of Lovina and visit Ubud (I was getting sick of the underside of Danny’s bunk bed). We bundled into a taxi and headed down after work on Friday. After being greeted by the host with pineapple juice (banging), everyone headed to their rooms and we all had an early night. Oh what a memorable Friday night it was for us STUDENTS…
Danny caught a taxi to the airport early Saturday morning. Some of us got a bit emotional (Danny has always been a big softie). I was feeling worse so headed to the doctors with Charis. I had a stool sample for the first time (me and Charis are no longer speaking after she had to witness it). I now have about a million drugs for my bacterial and parasite infection (I’m cool, I get both). Charis’ particular favourite are the electrolytes that I have to drink. They’re rank and she likes the faces I make while I complain.
Saturday afternoon the girls headed off to a Batik class where they made their own sarong using wax and dye. They were gone for 6 hours (that’s how long it takes engineers to muster up some creativity!).
Sunday we had booked a cooking class (perfect timing for me and my stomach…). The experience included a rice paddy tour and a look at a local market. The cooking class itself was really fun! We got to eat the food at the end for lunch (except me… I love plain rice anyway). As you can see from the pic, I don’t have an attractive ‘trying not to throw up’ face (or face in general). The rest of Sunday was spent exploring Ubud with a visit to the monkey forest.
Post waterfall jump update: Charis is black and blue where she hit the water.
